I have 2 CD players, in both of them I place a music CD, then I try to open the files (CDA files) to get WinAmp to play them

Whatever method (via explorer; doubleclicking on the CDA files, or via DOS command line ; "winamp.exe F:\track01.cda"), he swaps the drives, and starts the track on the other disc.

Please do not ask if I am sure about it, and that I am mistaken, no, I am 100% sure. Example : if the number of tracks is non-equal, he does not play the tracks which are in addition to disc1, because on the other disc, these files cannot be played. In that case, he opens Winamp and does nothing.

Same happens when only 1 music disc is inserted, he never manages to play the files, since these files are not there on the other drive.

I have tried many versions of Winamp (2.X till 5.X), but to no avail.

I am still to figure out whether or not this is a Winamp or a Windows problem. I had the problem before, installed/uninstalled some Winamps, and the problem was gone.

For another issue I now had to re-install Winamp, and the problem is back. The same trick (installing an older Winamp), now does not work anymore.

I had an issue with Winamp version 3, which installs an executable called winamp3.exe, unlike all other versions (higher and lower).

I did not try to use another player as I am happy with Winamp, and ... well, to debug I suppose I can have a try.

I am suspecting the issue is caused by the way Windows is linking CDA files to players. Unlike other file types (wav, mp3, ..) CDA files are simulated, and the "OpenWith" system works differently.

All you need to do is highlight all the files on the disk then right click on any of the highlighted files and choose Enqueue in Winamp. The files will then display on the Winamp play screen and can be played in order or shuffled. You can send as many files as you have to Winalmp like that and Winamp will play them all.

You may just have to choose one drive to use for cd music. Open Multimedia in Control Panel and click 'CD Music'. You can select the drive to use there.

I switched the driveletters on OS level, now it works OK

This shouldn't be necessary, but it works. Note that it used to work with the driveletters as they used to be

I suspect that it is something to do with initial install (registry!) and the driveletters how they were used then

If you changed drive letters after installing WinAMP then I can understand why the problem.
