OS: Win98SE
CPU/Ram: 2200xp/256Mb
Comment:

Is there a software package that will do backups of the OS and applications for WIN98SE that work on a CD-RW? I tried the backup under Nero 5.5 and it blows chunks!

Thanks

I advise 'Drive Image'.
It's faster and compresses better than Ghost.

Which one does a better job of backing up and restoring the OS. I want to be able to restore an OS after doing a format. In the past I have done that with a tapedrive.

Either will do what you want. I use Ghost because it integrates well with all my other Symantec programs (SystemWorks, NAV and Firewall).

Ghost functions out of DOS and once you understand it's little quirks (there are a few), it works quite well making a 1:1 or two different levels of compression either disk to disk or disk to CD (or almost any other medium with the required space, i.e JAZ, ZIP Tape). Ghost will automatically span from CD to CD for the entire set needed for the backup. It's my understanding that DriveImage works out of Windows. I've not used it, so I can make no comment about the relative value of that method.

Since Ghost works in DOS I will try it. I don't think I will try Drive Image because I have used backup software before that runs under windows and it usually won't properly backup the OS without spitting out errors.

thanks for the help
