Comment:

Some Google services I wish to use don't work(seem to fail to recognise cookies, which I have enabled). I suspect it may have something to do with my browser , IE 6 . My question is:
What other browsers are available for Win 98 SE ?
Can I continue to have IE ver 6 on my machine ?
Thanks
mmd

IE 6 should work with all Google services. Any problems you are having are a result of improper configuration, or the present of some security software (McAfee, etc.). I would recommend creating a new topic with the details of your problem, and someone will help you out.

The lastest version of Opera will still run on 98SE. It is recommended to get a later version of msimg32.dll or some minor details may not display correctly, but it is easy enough to find this dll on the web. You can have any number of browsers on your computer (meaning, you can keep and use IE6) and you can even be running them at the same time, if you have enough memory. I do not know if Opera will be of any help in working with these google services, but as RTAdams89 suggested, that may not have anything to do with the browser in the first place.

You mean Google Spyware, don't you? Make sure you read the privacy policies for the service(s) that you use.

Try Firefox. Even though Firefox 3 doesn't support Win98, you can still download version 2.0.0.17, which is the latest version that does.

Finally admitted defeat and installed Firefox this weekend, which immediately gave me access to my Google account !

Can still use IE which is still on my PC when I feel like it.

My thanks to all of you who tried valiantly to guide me through IE settings and to those who correctly guessed I wasn't going to make it, suggesting other OS instead.

Of course, but once you've found all the neat things that either FF or Opera can do, you'll likely stay with those and ignore IE...
