I can only install Windows 98, all other OSes give me an error. A blue screen of death that says the same thing, no matter what, I tried both Windows 2000 and Windows XP. When I try to install on windows XP it doesn't detect my hard drive I don't think. Because it doesnt show anything to install to. No partitions and no discs. Please can anyone help, thanks.
PS: I previously had Windows XP but my drive got reformatted and now this happened.

If your intention is to install XP or 2K, seems to have precious little to do with Win98 - which is already installed
Either you're doing something wrong (likely), or your hardware has 'issues' (or both)
Saying that XP is the most stable MS OS is like saying that asparagus is the most articulate vegetable

Since Windows XP is self booting.......
Do you have your BIOS set to boot from CDROM?
I once said"My pencil broke!My teacher said"
Don't you mean you broke your pencil?"Your drive can't just get formatted.
So far what have you done?
Sometimes a modem,sound card,etc.causes a
conflict when installing XP.Why not try again without the add-on cards
you don't need for basic Installation?

"I can only install Windows 98, all other OSes give me an error. A blue screen of death that says the same thing..."
OK. So what does this blue screen say?
"I previously had Windows XP but my drive got reformatted"
Like street1 said, your drive can't just get formatted. Someone has to take steps to do it & there are always warnings along the way. Something similar to: "WARNING! ALL DATA WILL BE LOST, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO PROCEED (Y/N)?"

... maybe a wizard did it (and the error's a secret)
"XP it doesn't detect my hard drive I don't think."
Seems like something you'd want to be sure of - sounds ridiculous on the face of it though since there is no file system used by 98 that XP can't (unlike the reverse)
