only get sound from right speaker

For the last couple of days I've only been getting sound from my right speaker. I didn't change anything, it just happened. I've tried reinstalling the card's drivers and running a virus scan, but nothing fixes it. When I do go to control panel-multimedia-advanced settings and the push "ok both speakers work for a little while but then quit again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. -Nick
are you sure the cable isn't damaged? TRy a pair of headphones. Also ensure the cable is in securely.
Double click the speaker icon on the tray. Make sure the balance controls (above each volume control) are centered.
If you don't have a speaker icon open up multimedia control panel and check "show volume control on taskbar"

is the balance centered in winamp?
The control is to the right of the volume control, and below the Khz indicator in winamp. It will say in the display "balance:center" when it is centered.
