Trying to help a fellow worker having a drastic problem with some missing/corrupt files. He has the latest versions of his thesis in a directory -- some are in word97 and some are in powerpoint97 file formats. Every such file in the directory shows "0 bytes" file size and of course, when opened, nothing is there! The other types of files in the directory are fine. We have run latest McAfee VirusScan and no viruses are found. Ran RegClean too thinking registry was corrupted. Out of ideas. HELP!!

These files are most likely corrupted or FAT has them recorded wrong. You need to run SCANDISK on your drive, and after it is done, the files may be ok. If not, go to the root of C: drive and look for files with a "CHK" extension. FILE0001.CHK for example. These files can be opened in notepad or wordpad. If you recognize your missing data in any of these files, try renaming them to the original name and they may work. If this does'nt work, Powerquest has a great new program named LOST and FOUND, that will retrieve them. Hope this helps. Al

This might be because of ExplorerZip.worm virus. If so, then you're one unlucky person as the same thing happened to me and no recovery. check your hard disk with Dr solomon AV 7.98 or latest Mcafee. additionally for its cleaner check NAI website at
www.nai.com
If u can't find the cleaner. let me know, I'll send you.

wish you luck.
