Does anyone know how to bypass the office 97 old version check for the upgrade cd? My office 95 came on floppy and one of them has died. Since a reformat to cure many win 95 problems (nothing helps crap software like a reinstall) I can no longer install office 97. What does it search for? What can be changed in the setup to fool it ( like setuppp.inf for win95, or a registry key) Help!

you can upgrade from works. Try running setup without formating, this rewrites system files and retains the apps

what you are asking for is the name of a particular file in the office folder that, wink, if found out MS would be sure to fix, nudge, nudge.

You can use the office manager disk that came with office 95. It will ask for the upgrade check when you install office 97. Point it to the a: drive and Office 97 should load after that.
any questions give me an e-mail.

If you connected to a network with an other machine which has Office installed, you could map the shared drive to your system and when you are asked to locate the folder, just point it to the shared folder. It works like a charm. (I have office5.1 installed and that is newer than office 97 and so is not valid for the update check...)
