Sir,

When i tried to save the file in msword 2000 it gives an error message "illegal operation; close the window) it also shows the following details: kernel32 at 017f:bff7a125.

Working a wild guess...
If you are saving the file and it contains an 'object' then make sure you click outside of the object prior to trying to save the file.

could also be that your normal.dot template is corrupt. Delete it, close the program, reboot and see what happens. Word will recreate the template the next time you open the program.
