Office 2000 Optimizer Problems on Win98 SE

Hi
Got a major problem with Office 2000 installed on Windows 98 machines.
These systems are part of a peer-to-peer workgroup and every time we boot the machines in the morning Office Optimizer kicks in, runs its course and promptly hangs. Any attempt to Ctrl-Alt-Del causes the machines to BSOD and the only option is a restart. Everything is fine after that...until the next morning.
I've tried removed any office 2000 startup options, and i've also deleted the 'office tuneup' registry entry in HKEYLOCALMACHINE. That simply seems to regenerate itself.
You can't cancel the optimizer while it's working: the machines also hang.
This is driving me up the wall. Has anyone got any ideas about the Phantom Optimizer?
The last response you received that said to delete the otuneup.exe is the one that we use. Be aware that this also effects the New Document and Open Document in the Start menu. I created a new tool bar for Office so that these two, as well as other, options are available to the user.
