Trying to set up multiple email accts on OE6.

Recently installed OE6 and my ISP acct "FreeServe" occupied was automatically placed at the top under the "Local Folder" spot. So far, all ok.

Then added a HOTMAIL acct and it occupied its own and fully separate space underneath the above account, using its very own folders. So far, all is still ok.

But then, tried adding a Yahoo.co.uk account and all is NOT ok. This yahoo.co.uk acct is sharing space and sharing folders with FreeServe's "Local Folder".

How do I get the Yahoo.co.uk acct to act like HOTMAIL and set itself up as a separate acct., using its very own folders?

I don't think that you can set up a Yahoo acount like that. As far as I know, Hotmail is the only one that sets up it's own email section.

Paul,
You can set up a "Yahoo.co.uk" account on OE free of charge. "Yahoo.com" charges a fee to use Yahoo.com with OE.

Sekirt,
I am actually writing this for a friend but I do know the steps he took. From OE, he clicked:
"Tools", "Accounts", "Add", "Mail" and then followed the prompts, inserting the incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP protocols.

The only question I have is what one is to select at the question: "My incoming mail server is?" The options are (1)POP3, (2)IMAP or (3)HTTP. I always let that option select itself; I've never had to change it.

Any ideas??

I believe the settings should be:
POP3.mail.yahoo.co.uk
SMTP......whatever the setting are for ISP acct "FreeServe"

I believe it has to send mail using FreeServe and not the yahoo server. If that is incorrect, then the only other choice is:
SMTP.mail.yahoo.co.uk

Sekirt,
We tried all options of POP3 and SMTP protocols and nothing worked. I'm guessing that unlike HOTMAIL, yahoo.co.uk shares the same mail position as the ISP (in our case, FreeServe) and all mail received to both accounts will fall in the same inbox.

While using just the one yahoo.co.uk account is not a problem, having multiple yahoo.co.uk accounts would pose a problem as they would ALL share the same "inbox" and "sent" folders (unless set up as "separate identites".

Your help was appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry...misunderstood what you were trying to accomplish. I was under the impression that the Yahoo! account information was getting mixed in with FreeServe somehow.

Am I to understand that you have more than one Yahoo! email account in the same identity and that is what will not work? I have 1 identity (main) and 2 POP3 accounts. All my incoming mail comes into the same inbox.

Hotmail works differently and I am not real familiar with it. Hotmail is basically a web based account that can be used with OE because Microsoft made it special and compatible.

I do believe you are right that separate identities will have to be set up to receive mail in a different set of folders.

There is one other option, if you don't want to set up separate identities. That is to make up message rules and your own set of folders. The message rules can be accessed by clicking Tools-->Message Rules.

Thanks sekirt -

I sure appreciate your following up. I've boiled it down to Hotmail using "HTTP" whereas FreeServe and Yahoo both use POP3.

And yep, I've got my other theories but too long to explain here. Because I sue hotmail, all DOES work well for me. Unfortunately, without setting up separte Yahoo.co.uk "identities", all incoming/outgoing email will fall into the same mail folders.

Thank you again.

By using message rules you can have the emails go to any folder you want.

If I now understand, this is what you want, for example:
A)Make a folder called Yahoo Inbox
B)Tools-->Message Rules-->Mail.
1)Where the message is from a specified account.
2)Move it to the specified folder.
3)For #1 you put in yahoo.co.uk and for #2 you put in Yahoo Inbox.

Then all the emails coming in from Yahoo will be sent to your Yahoo Inbox.
