I have been trying to get my 80gig maxtor drive to work on my Win98 machine, The bios only detects like 20 or 30 gigs, would a bios flash correct this problem?

I have spent many days browsing online for the update here is my info POST:
American Megatrends AMIBIOS 1999 Megatrends 1.11
bottom of screen reads:
62-314E-041999-00101111-071595-440LX-FLORIDA-EM-H

Are there any free programs that would allow the Bios to be restored in the event of incorrect bios flashing>?

If anyone knows where the bios Flash update site is please let me know. I have checked the AMI.com site emailed tech support, but no reply in days. My bios chip is not removable it appears to be soldered in unlike my newer computers, is this cause for concern?

Has anyone successfully done this operation? And will my restore disks from Emachines work after I flash the chip?

I am going to throw this pc out my window, if I cannot correct the problems :) LMAO...

Thanks everyone you are great :).

You should check the Emachine web site for a bios upgrade. If there is an upgrade, make sure it fixes the hard drive size problem. If it doesn't, do not install it.

There is the option of installing a drive 'overlay' program that will fool the bios into thinking the drive is within it's limits. That will be found on the hard drive manufacturer's web site. They work fine, but can cause complications later on if you make changes to your hard drives.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

I have visited E4me.com websites for the bios updates, I have not been able to locate them. If you are aware, I am missing such info, please direct a link my way. Thanks for the info... Still needing help. :)

Try the support Button on General Tab, System Properties. Use the 1-800 number.

Also try,

www.emachineupgraders.info/

I believe Bios support for eMachines with AMI Bios is now frovided by e.support.

If you have either Aida32 or Everest Home there should be links to e.support under the Motherboard, Bios sections.

If you get really fed up with your eMachine, throw it my way, before you throw it out the window.

There may not be an upgrade for your BIOS.

The other options are:

1) Purchase a newer style controller card.

2) Use MaxBlast DDO (Dynamic Drive Overlay):

This page indicates there are several etowers with the same motherboard. So an upgrade for any one of them should work for yours.

Here's a link to the upgrade based on the bios string you posted.
