hi, i really want broadband for my pc.

The only problem is, my pc is over 4 years old, here's my specs:

Pentium 166 MMX
48mb ram
1.7gb hd
Graphics Blaster Exxtreme Video Card
Yamaha 0pl3-sax sound card
15" monitor
2 usb ports
Windows 95

Ntl rang me up to see if I wanted their new broadband offer with no installation fee, I agreed to the price but at the end he asked what OS i was running, I said 'Windows 95'. He said i'm very sorry but windows 95 is not compatible. He then asked me if i could borrow a 98 cd from a mate (which is illegal).

I never managed to get that 98 upgrade cd.

Is this true? Is Windows 95 incompatiable with broadband internet (128k)?

These companies just dont want to support windows 95 anymore. Broadband runs off a basic TCP/IP settings which all windows O/S have.

Windows 95 is a dead horse as far as they are concerned. Microsoft will no longer be supporting windows 98 in about another 9 months, so we can kiss that goodby to.

Just what we need a bunch of home users (not all) who cant even use windows 9X trying to run XP.

Thanks peeps. So it really is compatiable but not supported by microsoft?

It doesn't look as tho i have enough ram either.

How much hd space does the upgrade take up?
Coz as u can see i'm pretty duped for hd space.

I have ntl 128k on win98.
looking at cd's I have, the terayon tj210 cable modem I got from them has drivers for win95. BUT The cd which installs and registers the cable modem will only work on win98(first or second edition). Install and registration is a one time process and once completed I formatted my HD to remove rubbish programs which came along with it.
I only have the cable modem drivers on my pc now(nothing to do with NTL) and surf trouble free. Perhaps if you could borrow a win 98 pc or install disk(400MB install) then revert back to legal W95.
Memory: I used to have a program called Quarterdeck MagnaRam97 which somehow fooled the pc into thinking it had more memory. Usually at least doubled my available memory.
