Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone else out there has run in to the crashing problem of the system.ini trying to set the computer to call on a "ntkernal.vxd (or ntkernle.vxd). The problem is that I'm running win95 and it doesnot have that vxd. I can't even find it to down load to load back to that computer.
...Help, it's dead except for "safe mode" ...it's dead...

Dave,
Just boot safe mode, open system.ini in notepad or sysedit, find and remove line containing ntkernel.vxd. Don't forget to save.
Al

Hi Al,
I tried to find the line in system.ini and couldn't find anything even remotely resembling ntkernal.vxd. I'll try again this afternoon, but in the meantime I've aquired information on trying to "determine a device driver's source". Failing all else, I guess I can try to create a new system.ini file. This problem has survived two windows95 reload. ....Big drag, ...BUMMER, ...deep sigh...
Thanks for the help though.Dave

This problem is very often associated with reloading Windows on top of itaelf.
This can be a common start-up error message. This file is essential to the operation of newer computers that have USB busses. In order to use USB devices this file must be working. Just click on Start, Find, Files or folders. Type in the named box USBSUPP.exe When you find it, double click on the file. When the file is finished running, go to the device manager and remove the USB Controller, if there is a conflict (a yellow circle with a exclamation mark in the middle), shut down and reboot and all should be well. When Windows is automatically reloading the device on boot, it may ask you to locate the driver. If so, point it to C:\windows\systemn directory.
I would like to thank Mark Emeigh for his contributions to this page.
Any Suggestions? jerry@jerry-diltz.net
