Comment:

I keep getting a VXD error message that referes to an NTKERN address. This smacks of Windows NT. However, I am running W98 2d Edition.

What gives??

Do you get this error during black-screenphase of boot up? And does it say,"press any key to continue", and then load windows normally after pressing key? Post back please.

See article Q192397 in the Microsoft Knowledge base; usually caused by bad RAM.

Check your USB settings. NTKERN can also refer to this.

in ref. to what Aussiblue said:
I got new RAM recently, and I get the NTKERN error message before windows 98 loads.
But my computer aknowledges that the ram is there, updates the pools successfully and shows me that I have 128. Is that still because of bad ram? (I had a mouse on my one of my USB port and I switched it to a normal one so that can't be the source.) If anyone has any insights please help me.

ps. how do I get that 'Microsoft Knowledge base'?

the ms knowledge base can be found at:
http://support.microsoft.com

Also check out this site:

also, bad ram may not show up as bad except for weird error messages while booting windows.

Good Luck
