When running system file checker, it is telling me that the nsuninst.exe file may be corrupted. When doing a search about it online, I noticed information concerning that particular file and Netscape 7 and Norton's SystemWorks. I recently installed Netscape 7 and about a week before that I downloaded the newest Norton's Anti-virus. While Norton's was loading, it said it would remove the old Norton's but I notice it is still on my computer. When I try to remove Norton's SystemWorks 2000, it asks me, are you sure you want to remove Netscape 7 and all of it's components. What does removing Norton's have to do with Netscape 7? And does anybody know where I can get a clean copy of the nsuninst.exe file? Thanks AGAIN!!!!

BeckyB, Check out the info under #7 "To use the SYMClean utility:" at the link below.

Looks like Norton and Netscape used the same uninstall file name. Pure Brilliance. LOL. I have to go away right now but I have some ideas and will be back later.

BeckyB, After doing some research my suggestion would be to uninstall the Netscape Program first then uninstall the Norton System Works 2000 (if it works after you uninstall the Netscape due to the fact that they both use the same uninstall file name) per the info I found at the Symantec (Norton) Support site.

Message: "Do you want to . . . remove Netscape. . ." when uninstalling Norton SystemWorks 2001 or earlier

Situation:
When you uninstall Norton SystemWorks 2001 or earlier, you see the message "Do you want to completely remove Netscape (7.0) and all of its components?" You want to know how to answer this question.

Solution:
Answer No to this question. Netscape 7.0 and older NSW versions both use a file named Nsuninst.exe. Removing the file may prevent Netscape from functioning correctly.

You're in a heck of a bind here due to the stupidity of either Norton or Netscape using the same uninstall file name. Another possibility would be to try to uninstall the Norton System Works 2000 manually following the instructions at this link but it requires a massive amount of registry editing etc.

If your Netscape & new version of Norton AV are working properly maybe you want to leave things as is and as far as SFC is concerned regarding that file possibly being corrupted just put a check or tic in the ignore space and don't worry about it.

One would think that Norton or Netscape would have put out a fix or patch to correct their screwup but I guess that's too much for us who pay for their products to expect. Post back with whatever way you decided to go.

Note: If you decide to leave things as they are you could delete the Norton System Works folders to the Recycle Bin BUT leave them there for a few weeks after trying ou your programs especially your new Norton AV and Netscape before you empty the Recycle Bin, It's your call.

Thanks so much for all of your great advice! I went to the link you posted and went ahead and downloaded the symclean utility and it got rid of my old Norton's Systemworks program and everything as of now seems to be working. The new Norton's that I had downloaded a couple of weeks ago and Netscape 7 are both still there and running fine. It was quite simple and only took me 5 minutes. Now if I could just have the 5 hours back I lost trying to figure it out! Just thought I'd update you on what I did so that you can use the info if you run into this problem again. Thanks again guys!
