I have had so many nice and positive replies to my solution to:
Native Audio Initialization Failure. Wave Task Manager (NSPMM.DLL) is not available.
......
I am going to re-post my answer under the title word NSPMM.DLL so it can be found more easily:
Eureka!!!! I found a key in the registry (regedit does not find it --why???) but deleting it did NO good. The problem is not that the file is not there but that another device is using it. And it is NOT RealTime. I'm still trying to figure out why it only appears when Realtime is uninstalled or deleted but is not "fixed" by re-installing.
Here's my solution:
Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager --> Sound, Video,Game ... --> Intel Virtual Audio Device --> properties --> disable in this configuration! It works! Somebody please send me a smile!
Thanks again for all the nice notes -- you cyber-people are great! gschnipp@earthling.net

Gloria,
My name is Wells and I deleted my Realtime directory off of my PC and started getting the error that you mention in your subject. I will use your solution. But I was also curious as to where I can find the Realtime software so that I can reload it.
Thanks....
Wells

Gloria,
I also had the NSPMM.DLL problem.
I used your solution.
Where can I find a copy of Native
Audio/Realtime so that I can
re-install it?Thanks,
Warren

What exactly is this file and where can I get a copy of it. I am still getting the error message that it is not found?
Thanks.

I suppose I can stop tearing my hair out, learning that I'm not going through this solo. I already disabled the Intel Virtual Audio. Still getting those obnoxious viaspoxd.vxd messages, AND my computer will no longer install new fonts. ???????

Thank you, thank you. Disabling the Intel Virtual Audio device got me past the error message!! Would you believe I've been trying to fix this for about 8 hours today, and I also upgraded the PC to Windows 98 to fix it - that didn't even work. I know I did delete the Realtime directory. I thought it was an older RealPlayer, but it isn't. I too am wondering what it is and where I could get it again to get around the other viaspoxd.vxd messages. My PC now doesn't give me the error message but it is still acting flaky.

Oh I think I just found heaven...I thought I was the only one who had heard of RealTime. I deleted it too, thinking like Sheila that is was an old RealPlayer. I too would like the RealTime back if anyone has found it. I have tried Norton's unerase editor, but it says it can't acces my hard drive. Any help would come from my angel!

Here is the Microsoft article dealing with the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q199/0/97.asp
The dll is part of the Intel Video Phone package which was installed on some systems shipped with windows 95. I looked at the intel site, but you can't get the dll from there for free. I'm not sure what it is needed for, but if anyone can find it please
let me know where to get it.

Anyone of you has found where the Native Audio/realtime may be downloaded from to reinstall it in my computer. I share the same kind of problems after remove this program.

I just deleted a Intel video phone off a 95 system and got the messages at startup missing c:\realtime\system\vrtwd.386 and also the same with ....viaspoxd, but have not yet gotten a missing NSPMM.dll message. On another board I see a instruction to edit the win.ini and put a REM statement at the beginning of these two lines. I have not done this yet, waiting to see what other's with this problem do to solve it. Anyone try putting in the REM statements?
David

Problem:
Native Audio Initilization Error during each cold or hot boot; Wave Device Manager Will be DisabledResolution:
Click on Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sytem/ Device Manager
- Select Sound, Video & Game Controllers & expand the tree so you can see all items listed
- Select all items under the tree & remove each, one @ a time
- Restart your computer
- System reaquires the hardware & associated software & asks to reboot after updating.
- Restart your pc & see if the error is no longer a pain in the buttIt worked for me, hope it works for you also

Getting rid of the Realtime problem
Edit your registry by using regedit
Start>Run>type "regedit"
remove all values that want a file in a
location below, in other words, any reference to c:\Realtime\system
Always back up registry before making changes!
note: these are mine-yours will be different.
found them w/ nuts and bolts regwiz-other apps will do same i guess. At any rate it worked for me. Good luck.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ConfigFile\DefaultIcon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ConfigFile\Shell\Compile\command
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ConfigFile\Shell\Start Configurator\command

Thanks very much! After hours of searhing the registry and rebooting win 98 to test, your simple solution of removing the Intel Virtual Audio Device fixed my problem.

I removed the Intel Virtual Audio Device, and got rid of the NSPMM.DLL message, but now my video don't work right. I can't connect the camera or VCR through the computer any more... says devices aren't available and unable to render video. ARGH!!! And I still get the c:\RealTime\system\viaspoxd.vxd error at start up.

No more error messages. GREAT, but no more RealTime. Do I need it? What does it do? Where would I get it if I need it?
