not shutting down

Hi my computer will not shut down automatically anymore. When it comes to "windows now shutting down" it freezes and i have to shut it down hard drive which is not good for the computer, any ideas why it's not shutting down? please help. thank you! :)

This is a bug with Windows 98. There should be a patch available from the Windows Update website.
Click on Tools in your Browser and go to Windows Update. Then to Product Catalogue when the website loads up.
Simply download and install the necessary updates from there.
