Hi all, I enjoy playing pool at pogo.com from usually every second time I log in am finding I am having to reboot to get back in. After I re-start my computer I go to the performance of it to find out the % of ram used it reads 79% I have 512 mb of ram so figure I still have plenty. I disable my firewall and anti-virus, clean and remove cookies and temp internet files. Go to the pogo.com page select my game (usually 9 ball) if thats relevant. Then I get the following error message pop up which tells me not enough memory.

The following error has occurred:
Not Enough Memory Available
Explanation:
Your browser does not have enough free memory to run the game.

The game applet requires approximately 3MB of free memory to run, in addition to your browser's normal memory requirements.

How to Fix the Problem:

Windows 95 and Windows NT
Make sure you do not have any other applications running. Each application uses up some of your computer's memory.

Make sure you do not have multiple copies of your browser running. Each extra copy of your browser is using some of your computer's memory.

Uninstall any large plug-ins (such as Shockwave) you may have installed. Each plug-in uses up some of your computer's memory.

If none of these suggestions fix the problem, you may need to purchase more RAM for your computer.

I go back to performance to see how much free and it tells me 64% so I figure that I still have plenty, am unsure what to do now so am here asking you guys for help/advice.
Ive gone to msconfig and this is whats in there, if any of it doesnt need to be there appreciate which ones to get rid of, BTW for the ones we dont want there (unticked) how can they be removed from msconfig?

ScanRegistry
TaskMonitor
SystemTray
LoadPowerProfile
CHotkey
Cmaudio
ccApp
ccRegVfy
CountrySelection
PTSNOOP
Run StartupMonitor LoadPowerProfile
ccEvtMgr

ccPxySvc
ScriptBlocking

Ill post back with any successes I have TIA

GoodMem is a program which helps you increase your physical system memory size and monitors your memory usage.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_list.php?kind=2
It has Free Once and Auto Free settings you can use when you right click the mouse on the taskbar icon. The colour you see gives a quick analysis of the situation:green is normal;red is time to free memory;drab or yellow is getting lower than normal and ends up red.
Good luck.

I don't know your answer but....

I had a similar problem. A friend suggested running Symantec's Win Doctor (was part of Norton System Works). This found problems in the registry, fixed them and that was it.
All sorted. This program can run off of the disc (if you can borrow a copy to try).

As for your AV & Firewall, I would never turn either of them off while on the Internet.

For items you want to disable from starting at start-up, see Pac-Portal.......

Greg,

"After I re-start my computer I go to the performance of it to find out the % of ram used it reads 79% I have 512 mb of ram so figure I still have plenty."

The Performance tab does not display the amount of unused RAM. It shows the amount of free system resources which is a 64b file that once used will display the out of memory error but it is not the same as RAM.

Removing items from msconfig will make more of the 64kb available. See Michael's link.

Dan's link, although not specific to your 512mb RAM, does tell the story you may want to consider.

Win98 also often has problems with more than 384mb RAM. As a test you may want to try limiting the amount of RAM you are using of the 512mb you have available by going to Start, Run, msconfig, Advanced and limit it to 384mb of RAM before you visit Pogo.

So, the 'Out of memory' error could be related to you having too much (512mb) RAM or related to not enough system resources.
