I have a Windows 98 operating system.Pentium II. The modem was working fine. I had to reformat my hard drive and since then Windows doesn't detect the modem any more. I tried to install it manually and still not detecting. Connections are all the same. The COM 2 (using IRQ 3)is used for the installation . The model # of the modem is FM-SFT56i (Cobra 56K).It is PnP.Com 2 is working properly and there is no conflict in IRQ 3. One mopre thing: the reason I reformatted my hard drive was that I installed Norton Anti virusn in My computer and my 4.3 G hard drive was reduced to about 560Meg(so some how it part of hard drive was partitioned). If that could be related in any way. If you know the solution to my problem, please let me know. Thanks Regards, Brenda

Try running Scandisk first. This should fix your harddrive problem. Next go to Control Panel, Add New Hardware and run the wizard. Pick the manufacturer of the modem and then click Have Disk. Insert your modem disk then pick the model from the list. This should install it correctly. wcr3d

One thing you may want to try is go into your bios and disable your usb ports unless you use them, in which case disregard what follows. I had the same problem after reinstalling windows 98 (pentium II 300 and 4.3 gig hd same as well as what you have) and the only thing that worked for me was disabling the usb ports. When the time comes and you have to use them, maybe I will have a better solution.
