I was trying to install a game I got for christmas but I kept getting this message. The game (Star Trek:The Game Show) worked fine on other machines, so I've formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows95, with newer versions for Soundpro, SiS 5597/5598 and a firestorm 36x. The only CD's that it will run are Windows95 CD and another CD with drivers on. All the others I've got are off the front of magazines but it won't run them at all now.
I'e searched the Internet and the message is everywhere and with different software, but no-one seems to have a fix for it. Please help me!

It may be true all these newspaper CDs are not Win32, but Win/DOS 16 bit applications. It seems you system has a problem to run the 16bit apps. Under NT this happens when NTVDM is disabled, I do not know which subsystem in Win95 is responsible for 16 bit apps.

I had a similer problem. But when I formated my hard drive I deleated all my partions first useing fdisk.exe and answering"N"when it asked if I wanted to enable large disk support then creating a new primary DOS partition. After which I would format and then load Windows
Cant promice but I havent had that message sinse

Please help!
I have had the same problem, when I click a file a error comes up and says this file is a invalid win32 application or file.
Thank You

I am trying to install this program and a message comes up and it says "Could not initialize installation(CRC)This function is only valid in win32 mode". Could you tell me what that means and what is or what does Win32 mean.
Please help. Thanks

I was on my friend's computer, trying to install windows ME on windows 98. They informed me that their CD ROM doesnt work. I get the message "Not a valid Win32 Application". And sometimes "Please insert disk into drive D:\" or whatever. Anyway i did it from boot disk and got windows ME on their eventually.. when trying to install microsoft office.. or using the CD ROM in general it still doesnt work. and sometimes it does. Microsoft office for egsample. It would open up and let me read a README.TXT file but not SETUP.exe
Any ideas? please email me. I dont want to reformat. Nor will i be doing so. (not my computer) heh

I've seen the problem on applications installed from burnt CD-ROMS especially on older (>3yrs) machines.
I've found that this can mean the CD-ROM doesn't completely understand the CDR format - it can happen if the CD is overburnt (using extended space) or is of a longer than normal format (> 74mins).
Another common cause (from CD) is that the CD-ROM drive is dirty or the read/write head is out of alignment.
just my 2c.
Gitm.
