Greetings.
A week ago I took my computer in to be looked at by a local (and quite helpful) repair shop. It had been acting up quite a bit. Turns out I had EIGHTY INSTANCES of the Magistr virus on it! Sheesh! So they removed the virus (no damaged data - yay!) and installed Norton Anti-Virus 2002 on it. This was good, cos I'd been wanting to get a new and updatable virus checker on this ol' PC.
Then things started happening. Five out of ten times, when trying to print invoices processed in Accpac, I'd get an error message.

Click on that link to view message. This happened a lot, but it NEVER HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE I GOT MY COMPUTER BACK FROM THE REPAIR SHOP!!
Also, when shutting my computer down, it tends to freeze at the "Windows is shutting down" screen.
These odd happenings started to occur when I installed this new program on the manager's computer.
So I called the repair shop, and they said it was an Accpac problem, and that I'd have to re-install Accpac. *sigh* yeah right. not if I can help it.
So I unistalled Norton's on both computers.
Now both are working fine.
Great, problem solved.
BUT.......I would REALLY like to use Norton's. Odd, isn't it, how a virus checker can cause problems on a computer?
Are there any pathes or fixes to get the program to work properly with the rest of my computer?
Any advice would help.
Thanks.

Norton has a support site for problems and fixes. It can act up with old software, and there are certain characteristics that need to be learned in order to use it without headaces. A few tips are:
1. If you intend on loading new software on your unit, turn off virus protection (disable).
2. If you are getting Operating system updates from Windows, turn off Norton.
3. If you plan ond doing system maintenace such as scan disk,or defragmentation, Turn off norton virus protection.
Many make the mistake of leaving it on when they load new software, and it sees certain files as possible virus activity, lending the program useless upon install.
See Symantec's site regarding conflicts, uninstall etc. After this uninstall you just did, if you go to start, find files, and type in Norton, you will get back files that never did get uninstalled, it does not go away that easy. That is why it is best to go to the site and get uninstall directions. I believe the advise from the computer shop was correct, uninstall accpac and reinstall with Norton off. It would have more than likely worked. I also noted the error message and will check on it, the face of it looks like a problem within DOS application non-Norton related.

But Accpac has been on my system for two years now.
Norton was only just installed.
Also, like I said, I NEVER had that error message or problem before Norton was installed.
You said Norton can cause problems if not switched off when installing a new program, but Accpac is not a new program.
Is what you said then still valid?
