Hello,
Today I had some troubles while trying to install norton anti virus after unistalling the panda anti virus. I unistalled the last one, and then tried the first one but after starting the instalation program ends without any message or without completing the instalation. The same happened while trying to instal the Norton Utilities in the same computer. Does anybody have a clue about what is happening? Any help is welcome.
Thanks In Advance

Uninstalling most virus programs is a little more complicated than going to the add/remove program on your computer and chosing remove. What I and most users have found out is that you will still have files in the registry that do not get removed. There are a few ways to accomplish removal. The best one is going to the site of manufacturer such as Panda and checking technical support for program removal. I know Norton and MaCafee both offer info for doing this, I don't know about Panda. The other method is to go into DOS and look for all files related to Panda and delete them. The third is going into the registry via regedit and removing, something I am not that familiar with and would let someone else advise you on that aspect. Installing virus programs must be done with everything off, including screensaver, maintenance manager, firewalls, etc so nothing interfers with the install. Sometimes a virus protection program will pick those things up as a virus (false positive) when they are active or you will get and incomplete install.

Also get RegCleaner and remove references to Panda.
Do you think Norton is better than Panda?
If you think Panda is hard to fully uninstall, just wait until you try to uninstall Norton. Norton even has a downloadable clean-up utility because its own uninstall routine leaves remnants all over the place.

Norton isn't hard to uninstall! I did it and had no problem. I also reinstalled it with no problem. The key is to make sure it's not running in the background before removing it.

Mark, RM is not wrong, both Norton and Macafee are not that easy to remove if you use their system utility suites or even the virus programs; That is why each one has detailed instructions on how to clear. I have been using Norton for the past 6 years, and uninstalling to install and upgraded version is not a problem, complete removal can be a problem.

Sure he's wrong. I removed it completely without a problem using add/remove then restarted the pc immediately after. Then I reinstalled it again with no problem. As i said, the key is to make sure it's not still running before uninstalling it.
