Try this: Go to the bios setup and run the autodetect harddrive.

1. Disable all boot media except HD in BIOS then try again. 2 Diasable the HD and use the floppy to boot 3. Try to exchange the IDE cable with differnet IDE controller
I think you can find out what is the problem.

If you're trying to boot from a floppy make sure the boot sequence in CMOS has the A: drive first. Also are you sure the floppy disk is a system disk?

It depends on the BIOS. For Award and AMI you usually just need to hit del while it's going through the memory check. If that doesn't work try ctrl-alt-enter, ctrl-alt-s, ctrl-alt-esc, esc, F1, or F2. I think the Phoenix bios responds to the ctrl-alt-enter even after it has booted (or in your case, after it has displayed the error message). Sometimes you can just hold a key down while it's doing the memory check and the bios will detect that as a keyboard error and ask if you want to go into setup. If your computer has an onboard ps/2 mouseport that is enabled you can disconnect the mouse and then start the computer. The bios will sometimes detect that something has changed and ask if you want to go into setup.
What kind of computer is it?

It sounds to me like your system files on the hard drive are trashed. You can try booting to the a: drive with a good system disk. (If the a: drive is not the problem) and type sys c:
