My IE will not execute a search!! I get a good dial-up connection but when I hit "Go" all I get is the "page can't be displayed" message and the little IE icon does not rotate. I re-installed W98SE but no luck. Is there an IE repair tool with W98? I looked at Add/Delete but could not find anything. Thanx

What version of IE are you running. To find out while in IE, left click help> about internet explorer. Post back.

Certainly nothing lost trying IE Repair, it would be my first step.
Go to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and double click the entry "Microsoft IE & Tools". This should give you the option.
If it comes up with a problem ensure you collect the details (usually some wrong version file). In which case we will need the info requested in #1.
If you have now reverted back to the original IE5 the Repair option will be grayed out. Re-installing Windows was probably not the best first option (it rarely is).

In addition to my response #1 here is a link to the latest version of IE for Win98se.

"My IE will not execute a search!! I get a good dial-up connection but when I hit "Go" all I get is the "page can't be displayed" message and the little IE icon does not rotate."
Ok, Ok... You do get "a good dial-up connection". Explain that please, I'm a little dense ok. Do you mean you can connect to the internet, and browse it. (To different sites) Yes, or No. Or, you've connected to the internet (you've verified this), and you can't go to sites ("search").
Are you using a firewall??
Are you using any internet security programs??
Have you double checked your connection settings, and even tried a new one??Or did you mean, IE won't "search", from the address bar?? But, IE works ok otherwise. Please explain, as I'm a little dense, in figuring these things out, thanks. A little dense, at spelling also :-)

Crazy, by "good connection" I mean that my connection status icon in the system tray indicates a connection speed of 46,000BPS. That is, I have an open electrical connection via my router/phone line at a rate of 46KBPS. Evidently, however, when I attempt to use IE to do a search, no electrical impulses are coming out of my computer. I believe I have some kind of problem with the application itself. I am using no firewall or security program. I will use OtheHill's suggestion to download/install IE and will post back. Thanx for everyone's responses, Geno

OtheHill - when I attempt to download IE6.1 from MS, all I get is a small executable file. Once installed, this file will enable MS to determine if that computer is suitable for IE6.1. If it is, it only loads IE6.1 into that computer, not the one I'm having trouble with! (Remember, I can't use the current IE application to access anything, including downloading files.)By the way, I have tried two different modems but IE still won't search. I'm about ready to lobotomize the computer and do a clean install.

OK
You need the complete file then. I wasn't sure what the MS link would yield, now that support is over. Here is a MS link for the entire file. It is quite large. Download this file, and transfer it to the crippled machine using CD or network connection.

Did you try IE Repair (or did I miss something)?
You can get the full download still, as far as I know, using this method:
DOWNLOAD FILEYou would obviously have to burn it onto a CD. It looks huge but it only adds what is necessary.

Derek
Here is an exerpt from the original post. I take this to mean the repair option isn't there. "I looked at Add/Delete but could not find anything. Thanx"
Geno
It would be helpful if you would respond to EVERY question. I asked what version of IE you are using. If you are using IE5** then updating to IE6sp1 should solve the problem, if the problem is actually Internet Explorer.

OtheHill
I guess you are right, but most entries don't have Repair options there, so I wanted be certain it was understood. "Could not find anything" tends to leave me wondering exactly what is or is not showing, and where (Delete?).The IE version does seem to be a carefully guarded secret.
Geno
Pasting this in the Run box also gets IE Repair option when applicable:rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance
(subsitutue 5 for 6 if IE5)

"That is, I have an open electrical connection via my router/phone line at a rate of 46KBPS."
"router", with phone line modem????
Quote myself;
"Have you double checked your connection settings, and even tried a new one??"And add to that, what type of connection do you have, and who is the provider?? Also, have you tried to PING a site??
Been busy with stuff, sorry didn't get back to you sooner.
