With IE 4.X, you normally have Active Desktop. On my win 95 pc, there's IE 4.72
...but no way to get Active Desktop (No mention of it in the monitor display settings, or Internet Options of IE or anywhere else you can find a setup for it!). That's weird! It even more weird because I can have the Channel Bar displayed on my desktop. But even the channel Bar Options
have no reference to Active Desktop!

Hi Roch,
Don't you get 'Active Desktop' with:
Start, Settings?

Maybe it wasn't installed with the browser. Try running internet explorer setup and selecting it.

yes, if it's the IE4 with service pack and active destop update it should be in the system.

But you can and I always disable mine.
To me it's just a waste of resources.

How to disable and or enable such things?
use regedit and look here

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

in the right pane I guess you would see
"NoActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001

right click on that value select modify
change it to 0
Or just delete it if your sure that's what you want.

I not only disable it, I don't install it.
