Download Belarc Advisor. Also, try Everest Home Edition to identify your computers sound ,then google search and download newest drivers.http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html>try this site for Everest Home Edition,Lavalys has discontinued it.

Usually this type of questionn begins with, "I just reinstalled windows". Hence the advice to search for drivers. I don't believe that this is the case this time (correct me if I'm wrong).
Start with the obvious. Are the speakers plugged in? Are the speakers receiving power? They aren't turned down all the way are they?
Check your volume control which you should find as a speaker icon in the system tray (where the clock is). Are any of the sliders turned all the way down? Is the mute box checked in any of the settings?
Next check control panel's multimedia aplet. Is your soundcard listed as the prefered device. I once came across a computer that insisted on using the modem as a soundcard!
If you still have no joy, you will need to look at the possibility that you have a hardware failure. First check the speakers by plugging in another pair. A cheap set of headphones may be substituted here (just don't wear them!) Failing this, you may be looking at replacing your soundcard.
