No Sound

CPU/Ram: intel pentium 2

i have an ergo elite 2 laptop,i have just reinstalled win 98,but now i cannot get any sound at all,i have downloaded drivers from the ergo website and also from ess,my chip is ESS1968S,i install the drivers when the found new hardware box comes up and then machine locks up,i cannot get the drivers to install at all,can anyone help??

i have just installed the drives you sent,but still no sound,but i now have..
ESS Maestro2 PCI Audio drive (wdm)
Wave device for voice modem
in sounds video and game controllers on device manager,should there be more devices on there??

have installed everest and it says the chip is es1968,have also had my laptop open,the chips in there are es1968,es1918,have also tried es1898 and still locks up,have been in touch with ergo and they said it is es1968,they reckon the chip or motherboard is no good,could that be right??

On your original post you said"but,now I can,t get any sound at all.This would lead everyone to believe you had sound before reinstall of win 98.So I believe the software and Using correct sound driver installation of software is your solution.
