Ok, I have an Aopen AK77 Pro motherboard with a built in VIA AC'97 sound card. I recently did a clean install and after I installed the audio drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard I still didn't get any sound. I checked the properties in the device manager and it has the sound card listed and saying it is working properly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times with no luck. Any help in the right direction is appreciated.

Go to multimedia in control panel and make sure the sound card is set as the playback device and nothing is muted.

Make sure the speakers are plugged in the correct port.

Did you check that the onboard sound is enabled in the BIOS setting's .
the motherboard is capable of onboard sound or a sound card but not both.
Also check that there are no IRQ conflict's.

and are you overclocking your FSB? IF you are it can stop the onboard sound..did it to mine with a Shuttle ME64 only @ 113Mhz from 100

DAVEINCAPS-I did the multimedia thing and I took a screenshot to show what my options are.

The speakers are plugged in the correct ports as well.

mmmmmmmmm-I didn't see any options in my BIOS for enabling or disabling any onboard sound. I don't believe there is any conflicts. Here is a screen shot of how I determined that, I could be wrong.

justin_b31-How do i check if i am overclocking my FSB?

I checked how to overclock my FSB. It didn't look to be overclocked in BIOS. It was at default of 100.

I also have an AC'97 adapter on my motherboard. The driver installs fine (newest driver). It looks ok in the Device Nanager but doesn't show up in the Control Panel/Multimedia. I had to install a sound card to get any audio. I suspect a hardware problem with the adapter

If it shows in device manager it should be enabled in cmos.

I think the reason it's not working is because it's not specifically listed in multimedia. But I don't know why it's not there.

I've occassionally had problems setting up new sound cards on systems having a previous card installed but usually a fresh installation is no problem.
