Hi,
My wife and I both have the same OS, 98se. When I play a pps file, that a friend sent to us, I get sound. When she plays the same file, she gets NO sound. We both get the slide show. We both have the same versions of Power point, SR-2 I think.
I can play a .wav file on her machine and get sound, so I know the hardware's working.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
John

I'm not familiar with powerpoint but on the office 97 version I have it looks like you may need to configure the sound options. From the toolbar choose TOOLS--OPTIONS--GENERAL. Or from the 'help' index type in 'sounds'

Hi Dave,
Those didn't seem to do anything. I opened a pps file on the net* and it worked fine, sound and all, on my wife's machine; so I'm thinking there's something missing from the file she had the trouble with. (Apparently the sound file isn't always attached and can be lost during transfers. I know it sounds weird, but that's what people on the forums say.) Apparently Powerpoint has a lot of peculiarities. Anyway, I'm going to let it go at that. Thanks for your help. Have a look at this site, below. There's some interesting stuff there.
Take care,
John

Hello, i know how to make a pps file ,my problem that when i am adding a song it works on my computer but when i am sending it to my friend it is not working on her computer ?? what can i do to make the song works directly along with the pps file ?? please can you write to me the steps to do that thanks ! !
God is good

That seems to be the problem the original poster had and it doesn't look like we figured it out. You may want to start a new thread so more people will see it--possibly someone who knows the fix.

I read somewhere, the creator of the pps has to include the
music file in same folder. The creator's PC (and the web site
server) knows where to find the music but when the pps file
is sent by mail, well... Get the point ?

HERE'S WHAT MICROSOFT SAYS ABOUT THIS :
You sent a presentation through e-mail, and the recipient
says the sounds won't play Your sound files are linked
and not embedded, and the sound files need to be sent
along with your presentation. Copy the sound files into
the folder that contains your presentation, and then use
the Package for CD feature to update the links and bundle
the associated files. You can find information about whether the sound is
embedded or linked and the location of the linked sound
file in the Sound Options dialog box. Click the sound, and
then under Sound Tools, on the Options tab, in the Sound
Options group, click the Dialog Box Launcher .Under Information, following File, you will see either
Contained in presentation (meaning that the sound is
embedded) or the file path (meaning that the sound is
linked).

Hi Dave,
Yes, I saw that. I'm not going to do anymore on it, until it comes up again, then I'll revisit this post.
Thanks,
John

Try this:
Go to Tools
Options
General
Link Sound Files Greater than _____ (make the size larger than the size of your sound file)
Good luck
Pam
