my system recently crashed. then i wanted to repartition my drive. but the extended dos partition doesn't have a "logical drive defined". therefore, i can't delete it. i can't even create a new logical drive because all the space on the ext. dos partition is already consumed. the primary dos partition was ok, i can add and delete it, but windows can't be installed if the extended partition is messed up. i predict that it is a problem with the master boot record. any idea how i can fix the problem? how can i delete the extended dos partition? thanks. email me at rafaelz5@yahoo.com

Hi Pael,

I would start over first using Delpart to remove all of the partitions.

Next use fdisk to create the partitions you would like.

www.kildisk.com or http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/support/faqs/faqs_20000120_0000000036.htm to remove drive info.

I agree with Mesich.....In fact I had your exact same problem last night & used Delpart to fix it.

My problem was caused by having an NTFS logical drive installed into the extended DOS partition. Fdisk couldn't see the NTFS drive, yet it still wouldn't let me delete the extended partition. Delpart easily solved the problem.
