My roomate's pc was loaded with spyware so badly that the pc wouldn't boot completely anymore, he was getting an error Explorer has caused an illegal operation on boot then a black screen so I installed win98 on top of itself 'cause he didn't want to loose all data. Everything is ok now except that he can't connect to internet but when I ping 127.0.0.1 everything looks ok, any help would be greatly appreciated.

What have you done to remove the malware from his system? An over the top install will only refresh the windows files, leaving all the crap along with the useful files.

I ran Spybot search and destroy and adaware.

Providing that you updated those programs you shouldd be OK.
How does he connect to the internet?
If this is through a network, can you ping another computer such as yours?

yes through a wireless router on a home network and yes I see other puters. Oh it worked now, I just rebooted... unreal.... sorry and thanks for your time.
