I'm having the exact same problem as described on this (old) thread: http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/117807.html Did anyone ever figure out what to do to fix this? Email me or reply if you know what's wrong.

Seems like the poster gave up.
No two problems are exactly alike (even with the same symptoms) so it would still be a good idea to carefully go through the suggestions given. I know Tufenuf of old and he is very good.
I've checked my setup and it is exactly the same as Tufenuf's (that -nohome etc).
Nothing to add right now. I'll scout around on it but don't hold your breath.

This is also worth a thought if all else fails (registering .dll's and checking registry entries): Google "Groups"
On another one I read the guy fixed it by re-installing IE.

Hi Andy, hi Derek
Have you tried to open the GIFs in another photo editor...like MS Paint, or Irfanview ?
What happens then ?

It's fixed!
I found the answer on this page: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#jpg_gif (linked to from the google groups link you gave me); I now see that it is on the google groups page as well. I had to go into the regristry and change the value of "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif" from "image/bmp" to "image/gif".
Thanks, Derek! Andy : )
