i have an ibm aptive win 98se on startup npw get msg "emm386 not installed unable to set page frame address". it then does bootup but veeeeery slowly. my system resources then are lousy. ibm said i must reload my whole system format partition...I would love another option! any ideas? also i dualboot with win 2000 using partition magic is there any way to save my win2000 system if i do have to reload ? I do not know you guys but you seem to have a livly group. hope you do not me asking for help thanxxxxx avi

This was taken from microsoft support page: EMM386 not installed - unable to set page frame base address. The EMM386 expanded-memory manager could not find 64K of contiguous space for the page frame. Try to relocate one or more adapters in the region between 640K and 1 megabyte to free up some space for the page frame. Or if you know that E000 is free, you can specify frame=E000 Does the error occur if you boot into safe mode?

goto start-run type in msconfig, click config.sys tab. There might be stuff in there. You usally don't need anything so uncheck any referance to HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.exe They arn't needed because windows will load the required Memory drivers without DOS ones and it's a lot quicker. If you do need to reinstall your 2000 will be safe. You just need to format the win98 partition.
