no cd -rom and writer in device manager

cd-rom and cdwr working fine but not listed in device manager,they were listed before. i have file mscdex.exe , dos and win98se diskette,i am trying to install mscdex but no luck.i have the driver for cdwriter,but i cant find nec 1901a driver anywhere in the drivers web pages. mscdex in not on the win98se startup disk. how to add the cds to device manager? thank you

Hi:if they shows up before in device manager and now not than some files in the registry has been corrupted and these files are Related to your Cd-Rom /Cd-Rw Good luck
If they are working fine, why not leave things alone. You might mess things up fooling with mscdex. Mscdex is only needed for DOS. Windows has it built in.

In Device Manager, do you have any yellow ! on Hard Disk Controllers ? Run REGEDIT and search for NOIDE It will be here if you have it in your registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\VXD\IOS Look on right hand screen for NOIDE and delete it, if found
