Hi:if they shows up before in device manager and now not
than some files in the registry has been corrupted and these files are Related to your Cd-Rom /Cd-Rw
Good luck

If they are working fine, why not leave things alone. You might mess things up fooling with mscdex. Mscdex is only needed for DOS. Windows has it built in.

In Device Manager, do you have any yellow ! on Hard Disk Controllers ?
Run REGEDIT and search for NOIDE
It will be here if you have it in your registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\VXD\IOS
Look on right hand screen for NOIDE and delete it, if found
