I am going to have to totally wipe out my system and reload all components. Due to the problem with the compaq's and 98 and their memory problem I am loading back up with XP. I have a ton of pics I need to save but I dont have a cd burner, is there a way to connect my laptop (win xp 10GB HD ect..) and transfer these pics ?

There are several ways to do that. Probably the easiest is a special USB cable (about $25 US).

If both machines are network capable, (they both have an RJ45 ethernet port), then a simple ethernet crossover cable will network the two machines. Then you can copy.

Make sure your spec is suitable for XP before you install it. The minimum requirements quoted by MS are such that XP will only "just about" run.

Oh, you must mean this cryptic message (that you have apparently abandoned)

Full speed ahead then

Resist the temptation to close your request for help with semantically-null questions like “Can anyone help me?”

I see that you gave no further response in that other post. I hope you do so this time, otherwise it might get misconstrued as rudeness by those who are giving up their spare time to try and help you.

You don't need a CD burner to save files. Just copy them to any other writable media, floppy disks, zip disks, other hard drives, etc.
One note of caution. If you have memory or other system oroblems, installing an OS is one way of losing your data. Backup first.

Thanks for all of the advice, This is my moms computer and she is not interested in a new cd burner, I went out and purchased a USB flash drive to store all the info she wanted to save.
Thanks
