Last week I went to access a floppy file and my machine crashed. Since then I can get thru mem check, pnp init, and drive detection (showing both HD and CD correctly) but the loading then stops - cursor blinking, no movement. I have checked thru mobo seetings, Bios and Cmos with no improvement of loading. Any ideas on what's hanging? I can't seem to boot from floppy - no response. have tried swapping out floppy for one that I know works. is there a connection that could have blown and therefore floppy drive is no longer detected?

When you say cursor blinking, are you at a dos prompt? If so, can you type in scanreg /restore and pick a day of the last good boot?

I may have terminology wrong - not a cursor or DOS prompt, just a flashing rectangle. It's still the first black screen that lists BIOS, PNP Init, auto detecting primary master, pri slave, sm, ss. Then blank, blinking box.

Make sure that you do not have the floppy drive plugged in backwards. Also, try swapping the floppy drive cable with a new one. It may have gone bad.
