I recently inherited an older NEC brand 486, which came to me with the hard-drive completely erased, and no boot disc. On the bootup, I get two beeps and it doesn't go any further. The monitor only shows wavy lines. How can I save this computer? Please help!

Some NEC 486's have their BIOS accessed via a setup disk, sounds like your BIOS battery is dead. You will need a setup disk to reprogram the BIOS before accessing the HD. I do not know of any source unless someone reading this has a setup disk they can send you.

OK, got the machine booted, it was simply loose wires. But you won't believe what I found! Windows 3.0! This system has a Mitsumi CD-ROM, I installed the correct drivers, but I can't get the system to recognize the D-drive, so I can upgrade the OS. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I could e-mail you a generic driver that you could load into your config.sys that might help. Contact me if interested.

Hey I have an old PS1 IBM computer that I would like to give to my granddaughter to play with. It would help her learn the keyboard and maybe play some games, but I don't know anything about it. Is there anyone out there that would know? It only has a slot for a floppy disc. I'm sure I would need a boot disc and/or processing disc and/or game discs. Any information would be helpful.

I have an old 486 that used to work. Now it says hd Failure and to push F1 to continue. I do that and it says insert boot-up disk in drive A. I don't have a boot-up disk. Where can I get one or download one? Thanks for your help.

i have an old nec 486 that doesn't boot... it starts, but gives "keyboard" error, even though I have a keyboard plugged in. tried several different keyboards. this thing is old though, and is ps/2 ... does it require a 'special' ps/2 keyboard?
