no addresses in address bar

As I move from site to site the address bar remains blank,(arrow-down history also blank) also the "go" button's background color turned white (instead of the usual grey). I can't figure this one out . . . any help will be much appreciated.
The color scheme may have been changed to white text on white background, so you don't see anything. Try going to display properties and appearance. Select standard Windows color scheme or any other.
