NHL99 Patch/Need for Speed II Lockup

I am having problems loading the NHL99 patch on my computer. My system reports a fatal error message which in turns crashes by explorer. I have re-installed Win 98 but it still does the same thing.
Need for Speed III ran fine when I first installed it but now the program locks when I go to have a race. I get the same results when selecting any graphics card controller as well.
I am running a PII 400, 64MB Ram, 12.4GB hard drives, 32X CD-ROM. My video cards are a Diamond Stealth II G460 AGP 8MB and a Monster 3DII 8MB. Sound card is AWE64 Gold. All drivers are current as I have tried everthing but to no avail.

I have the same problem but with the patch AND the roster update. After it finishes unpacking and extracting files, it runs a "DOS box" titled NHL99patch or NHL99rosterupdate depending on wich one I execute and then my system crashes with EO exception errors or similar messages.
I am running a P166 MMX 32MB Ram, 2.0GB, 8X CD-ROM, Matrox Millenium 2MB and my sound card is AWE 32. My drivers are also current and I am running WIN 95 (not OSR2). I even removed all processes that run when windows starts (using pole editor) but that did not even do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
