I have a new HP Printer/Fax, that I want to install on my fathers labtop which is an old system running windows 95. The setup disc for the printer does not list 95, will I be able to use this printer on his labtop? Will I be able to find any printer for this old labtop?

If you can get 98 drivers installed, they may work. But it's likely the setup for the printer will see it's 95 and not install.

Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem finding a printer to work with 95, especially if it's connected through the parallel port. You may have to look for an older model--dot matrix, laserjet, etc.

I'm curious. Is there some system called a labtop which I've yet to experience, or is this a typo for laptop?

Labtop: A word that inexperienced college freshmen (most often girls) call their notebook PC.

College Freshman: I just got my new labtop, it's awesome!
Experienced Geek: You mean a Laptop.
College Freshman: Yeah, that's what I said! Labtop!

Drives me gaga too - the surplus shop where I occasionally buy hardware & such actually had a couple of signs advertising Dell "Labtops" {shudders}

They fit in your lap, not in your lab (unless you're a mad or at least irate scientist)

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

If it is a USB printer you will probably have no joy with Win95. There are a few exceptions, but VERY few.

Way back in EE lab they took all the equipment off the lab tables and replaced them with those box-shaped Mac plus computers. The Mac's had fancy (for back then) circuit analysis software. It seemed only rarely did we get to play with the equipment. Some of the old professors would look in there and give a look like 'what the hell is going on here'.

But I guess those were 'labtop' computers.

If this computer is running Win95B then you MAY be able to use the Win98 drivers.(32bit version). Here is how to determine if the OS is Win95B.
95B will show as 4.00.950 B when you right click My Computer and click properties, or as 4.00.1111 if you go to a DOS window and type ver and hit enter.
