Personally, I do not mess with the camera software. It is slow to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer. I use a card reader that my computer sees as another drive and the pictures can be transferred to the computer from the camera card in seconds.

i had same problem with coolpix. it seems that the file which stays resident can make the cpu run at 100% nonstop. this file could be some version of nkvwmon.exe, depending on your program of camera software. this problem occurs on all versions of windows with antivirus software especially. there is an easy way to check if this is the problem, simply STOP the nikon file, whatever it is called, by hitting ctr+alt+del ONE time to bring up screen which shows which apps are currently running. close whichever one is nikon. alternatively shut down your antivirus program. if you see that the cpu usage is significantly reduced, you know what the problem is. you can tell cpu usage by running sysmon.exe. [you find this in windows directory and just double click to open it] what i do is disable the nkvwmon.exe from startup. [from start, run msconfig to see all the programs you start up when booting] then i put a shortcut to nkvwmon.exe on the desktop. only when i want to connect the camera to the computer do i then click on this shortcut to start nkvwmon. you must do this before connecting the camera, otherwise the nikon software will not automatically detect the camera. after you transfer your images you can turn off nkvwmon.exe by rebooting or by using the close program screen as described above. you do not need this nikon tsr program to be running all the time, unless you are hooking up your camera to the computer ten time a day
