Hello
I just got a new hard drive and would like to know what is the easiest way to clone my old drive to the new so I can put my old drive in a different computer?
Thanks

xxcopy ( freeware ) from ,
http://www.datman.com/xxcopy/betatest/

Start > Programs > MS-DOS Prompt .
Copy the 1st line below & click paste in MS-DOS & click Enter , you
get a copy of everything . No need to close any programs down .
2nd line excludes Windows .
3rd line copies Windows only .

XXCOPY C:\ D:\ /CLONE
XXCOPY C:\ D:\ /CLONE /Xwindows\
xxcopy "C:\windows\" "d:\windows" /CLONE

Use the startup disk to boot the computer and when you are at the A:\
prompt type sys c: and press Enter. The required boot information will
be copied to the new disk and you have a working copy of the old hard
disk.

Ya, you could do that, but you also can just make your old hard drive a slave drive so you can pull all your old information that way. Just a little easier and time saving in my book.

Download "DiscWizard" from the Seagate web site. Works with any make hard drive.

After you have it cloned and swapped to master, you might have to set it active. It will not boot if this is not done. Boot from a floppy, run fdisk and set the partition 'active'.

I have cloned many drives, usually using Xclone (available on several download sites). It is the best way to go since it transfers the whole working copy, including the Registry. If you use a permanent swap file you will have to set this up on the cloned drive as copy routines cannot move swap files.
