Network works, ICS doesn't

Comment:
Running W98SE I just switched ISPs from IDSL to ADSL and after reinstalling ICS on the machine with the Internet connection, the other two PCs no longer have Internet access (applications such as Internet Explorer and Outlook Express can't find the Internet connection). The network still works (the 3 machines see each other just fine, can transfer files, etc.) W98 ICS help only says check that the client machines' adapters' TCP/IP obtain IP addresses automatically. Can anyone suggest a relatively thorough troubleshooting checklist for ICS? Thanks!

Dig your way around Tim Higgins site; he covers ICS in some detail and includes some caveats that 'may' have some bearing here...

Helmig's site may also have some input - but for more serious ICS problems Tim's site may be the one on this occasion.

Not really a helping answer, more a opinion.
Forget ICS, get a 3rd party sharing program like Wingate

M$ provides a cut-down proxy as ICS = winproxy (if I remember corectly).
Although there may be advantages to using a full-blown item?

eventually got all working smoothly (took a lot of tweaking and un/reinstalling) the below pages were very helpful if (hopefully never) you need to make ICS play nice with PPPoE http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q238/1/35.asp http://support.efficient.com/KB/NTS/windows.html http://www.sohointer.net/howto/debug-ics.htm
