Hi,
I have a strange Win98 network problem. I can connect to my isp via dialup modem or use the lan (different isp) at work via network card on my laptop but in both cases I can't use anything on the tcp/ip stack higher than ping. Ping works okay for the most part (on my dialup modem I can't ping some ips, notably my own ISP's!) but ftp and http return socket errors (10014). When I use the lan at work I can log in, see other computers and share drives, etc. but once again tcp/ip fails when I try to use ftp, http, or telnet. Any help is appreciated!

Hi,
If your TCP/IP setting correct, you may face that your network router block outgoing request to the internet use ftp, http, or telnet. To check your TCP/IP setting, go to Run and type winipcfg, do you see any IP assigned to you? How about DNS? I think to avoid people goes to the internet, your network admin not assigning DNS to the DHCP setting.

Summary: To answer your questions: No, this shouldn't be a virus. But a good Virus scan using McAfee Clinic or Norton Anti-Vius first, won't hurt. First, of all I need to know if it is a router or a hub both...
Summary: Heres my problem... 1. I installed win 95 (disks) on an older computer (486-25mgz), no cdrom drive.Thought I installed all components but when I tried to install web browser (first netscape/ then ie) ...
