I am trying to install MSOffice over a network using tcp/ip with windows 95a and a PCMCIA NE2000 compatable network card. I bought the laptop off ebay therefore have no installation disks. When i plug the card in it asks for windows 95 disk 13 etc.

Is there a way of not using the windows disks at all to install a network?

That would be extremely difficult.

But you `might' have the equivalent on your hard drive. Look for a c:\windows\options\CABS folder. If you have it, the install files might be there. You could try pointing to that folder instead of to the `disk 13' floppy.

It's unlikely that there would be the equivalent of the CABS folder on the drive, as the 13 diskette version is typically an upgrade. This is the plain 'vanilla' version (without the 'A') although easily upgraded with a Service Pack, as may have been the case here.

The \OPTIONS\CABS folder is found on preinstalled systems. Won't hurt to look though (also c:\win95).

Network changes involve requests for several of the diskettes actually - although it may be possible to hit 'cancel' or 'skip' IF the files are already on the system. Never actually tried that, but I've read reports where this has worked.

I don't think 'CDfree' will do anything useful on this system.

Confusion reigns

if you have the windows 95 cdrom: just look for the file that is mentioned in the message about disk 13 etc.(click on details button)

you can find the file this way:

rightclick the folder win95 on the windows 95 cdrom and click "Find"

in the box "Containing text:" type the exact name of the file, for instance: pcccard.vxd

then the cab file will be found, that contains the file
