Hi,
I'm having a hard time to connect my two computers. Both are Win98SE. One seems to be set ok. The other lacks the network icon on its desktop. I have all the services, NETBEUIs and the like installed, but I guess I still have to do something else. The symptom is, of course, the network items that I understand, should appear automatically when you do something. What?

Thanks

Hello
your post is not clear...
Network icon is normally used to configure your modem.. you find it into control panel when needed for configuration.
As long as you are using a provider, as AOL for exemple, installation is providing drivers to be use in the NETWORK options, but you don't see it when connecting ...
you don't need to see that icon for a normal internet connection, sometimes you have only on taskbar the Network icon to give you only the flood of connexion, and in certain internet connexion the sign off, when using Outlook Express for exemple...

Hi
Go into Control panel, double click on network, then under configuration, click on add, then add, Client for Microsoft network.
click OK. Now you should have the Icon on your desktop. Have a nice day.

Imp is on the right track. if I remember correctly I acquired a PC with a partial install of Windows 95 and also didn't have the Network Neighborhood Icon on the desktop. To remedy that I had to install MS DUN (Microsoft Dial up Networking that is). My PC was missing too many essential DLL's so I gave up on that install and formatted my C drive to start from scratch. Don't do anything that radical to your PC unless you have the same types of problems I faced. I think I remember seeig Dial Up Networking v1.2 on download.com Go to that site and search for DUN or dial up.

In fact I want to connect my 2 PCs in a small network. My internet connection works fine. Also, when I open win explorer, right click on the HD icon there's no "Sharing" option...

Oldhobo is right if you do not have a client installed you will not see the Network Neighborhood on your desktop. Also if you want to share files you need to be in the same workgroup and have file and print sharing turned on.
