Subject: NETSCAPE caused an invalid page fault in module NETSCAPE.EXE
Comment:

I have Netscape Communicator 4.6 on my Windows 95 PC. Netscape is crashing when it is at the loading plug-ins stage. Details reads: NETSCAPE caused an invalid page fault in module NETSCAPE.EXE at 014f:0060316b.
I have checked the Netscape folder on my C drive and it is not marked as read only.
I have First Aid 2000(which I don't like, but it does catch and fix crashes)
First Aid 2000 catches the Netscape crash and I simply click Auto-Fix and Netscape continues to load and work fine.
I would like to fix the Netscape problem so I can be able to get rid of First Aid 2000.
Any Ideas? Netscape Tech has been no help!
Thanks in advance,
Doug

I found this in Netscape's newsgroups- it was the answer to a question that matches yours.

I removed all the plug-ins from the Netscape Plug-in folder and then launched Netscape.
It worked fine! I then put back the plug-ins one at a time to test. I found two that made Netscape crash: npaudio.dll & npavi32.dll.
Thanks bone & CAPS2112 for your help in solving this problem!!

I receive a similar error. However, none of the fixes mentioned helped. Whenever I try to view a griphic in a news group I get the error Netscape caused an invalid page fault in module shell32.dll at 017f:7fcbf63c

I am encountering a similar problem but the difference is that I have upgraded to Netscape 4.7. And this problem that was stated is happening in v4.7. I am trying this method and hopefully it will work.

I too had this problem.
One way to get into Netscape without it loading the plugins is to start it with the shift key down

I had this problem with both Netscape 4.6 and IE 5. I ran Wintune98 from Windows Mag and for some reason the problem stopped.
Also, discovered my son had downloaded some updates for RealPlayer and he may have mixed some win98 files with my win95 system. Don't know if that was the cause, but I reinstalled RealPlayer.
Been a month now and I havn't crashed!

I was just going to get a digital certificate offered by Netscape and then Windows 98 displayed the following:
"NETSCAPE caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff87eb5." and Navigator shut down and error box came up. I click on Close button and the same error box comes up over and over again. Only rebooting solves the problem. I suppose I start with plug-ins first. Navigator v4.72.

What you have to do is determine what plugins or programs are 'hooking' into Netscape. You do this by (you've seen this before) moving all the plugins in the communicator plugin directory to a temporary directory. Restart Netscape, preferably after rebooting the computer. If problem solved, then you add the plugins one by one back into the plugin directory until you get the error. If you still get the error even after removing all the plugins, you must start uninstalling programs that hook into Netscape, starting with the most recent one added to your system. An example of a program like this is GoZilla, the download accellerator. This program loads some .dll files when Netscape starts. This is the program that caused the problem with my system, but it could be another download accelerator, a search utility, or any other program that merges its activity with Netscape. Or Real Audio, or Quicktime etc, etc. But start with the most recently installed program of this type. I also had a previous occurence of this problem some time ago and at that time it was a corrupted Real Audio file.
Sometimes you will find people cursing Microsoft about problems like this, but it's usually not Microsoft, it's the other guys!
Good Luck!
RobertB

I'm using version 4.7 and I get it every now and then. Seems to be mostly when I try to hyperlink from one web site to another. I get the invalid page fault in Netscape.exe. So my browser closes and the TalkBack function starts to boot up. Then I get "invalid page fault in module Talkback.exe. What the heck. How can Netscape help with feedback if the feedback agent keeps crashing. Got this version of the Netscape web site.

Has anyone found a fix to this problem?
I'm getting an invalid page fault in module
Netscape.exe, even after having reinstalled
netscape 4.73 and all of its plugins. I've
narrowed the problem down to two plugins:
npaudio.dll and one Quicktime plugin. It
seems that Netscape suddenly has issues with
audio...

HELP!

I've had similar errors for a while now- always when starting netscape. Mine says "in module . I'm going to try the plugin thing in a minute.
I've learned a couple things about the problem that may be of help-
1st, i can fix it by uninstalling Gozilla. I don't like this solution, as i can't live without gozilla. However, until i find a better fix, i find i can ignore the illegal operation dialog, (DON'T click CLOSE, and drag the box to the bottom of the screen out of the way) and continue to use netscape normally, despite the error.

I have tried to delete this, but have been unable to do so. If anyone can help me, please, your help would be highly appreciated!!! I have called and Tech Support is of no help. They only tell me it is a Microsoft problem, but don't have any answers as to how to fix this!!! Thanks in advance for your help!!!!
