hi guys!!!
ok bear with me here...all i can ask for is a point in a logical direction..all asnwers are appreciated...i netmeet with my girl in australia..but now netmeeting is all messed up on her end..it usuallly works just fine..i have dsl and she has a 56k...heres what she did right when the problem started...she installed the latest winamp 3.something..then she said her pc was acting funny and thought she got a virus...no..no virus there..she said she had 2 winamps installed and just deleted them!! not uninstlled ..deleted...so last night with alot of typing we found a missing windows/system file i believe it was regsrv32.exe..so i had her restore from the cd...she reinstalled netmeeting but its still not working..she can sometimes hear me but i cant hear her..i tried on a different pc and her voice was very chopped up and sounded like "alvin" from the "chipmunks"..its very hard to get a correct answer from this girl..so i dont have much to give you..like i said a point in a logical direction is about all i can ask for...i think under the circumstances a reinstall over the os is appropriate...also about the same time her isp changed her dial up number..she didnt mention anything about them telling her to change any settings..so im almost sure this isnt a proxy issue...any help will be appreciated...if you saw her you would understand....hee hee ...wink....

anybody know any good netmeeting servers?

deleting stuff rather than uninstalling leaves registry references that point to nowhere. it's probably directing her audio to god knows where.

she could revert back to a version of the registry prior to her installing winamp. this is done (in most cases) by rebooting and hitting F8 right after the BOST beep. there's usually a repair option there that allows you to choose a registry version by date.

Oh and here's some netmeeting stuff.

The command RayMan is on about is
"scanreg /restore"
without quotes and it needs to be done in msdos

get there by pressing F8 as it says "Starting windows" you have to be quick :)

choose "comand promp only"

Then type "scanreg /restore" and pres enter

choose a date (with up and down arrow) prior to problems and press enter

After its done press reset and pray

:)

hope that helped

sure if one or more system files sre missing or corrupted.

the registry restore thing, i seem to recall that each time you boot up it creates a new entry in that list, But if you just did an OS reinstall or you never trun off the computer then you wouldn't have a good restore file.

how about using regedit, backing up the current registry first and do a find on "winamp", no quotes, and delete any references to it, especially those associated with RUN.

If necessary either use email or instant message to explain the procedure before she tries this.

Did you try uninstalling netmeeting and then reinstalling? Try system file checker that should do it. Also have her downlaod "tight vnc" it's a remote control prog that i use to work on people's computer's from home. It's easy and free and works great.

it dose not matter about your computer date`s its the computer that you run "scanreg /restore" on, Not all the computers in the wourld will have the same restore reg dates

I recommend gettin her to run a scaneg /restore and restore the earleys date because it may be nothing at all todo with winamp at all.

Restoring a older registry cannot hurt also when restoring it automatically makes a backup of the current so you can always put it back after if something gose wrong

as for system file check why not run it anyway that will also not hurt windows ;)

PS:i would like to add the "scanreg / restore" has helped me sort out loads of windows installs

Yah whay he said. and don't forget to advise her to redo any security updates that may be removed with the old registry restore.
