Working on a used Compaq Presario 4540 system, just upgraded to Windows 98. Owner has NetZero internet access. Will not connect. Each time dials in and drops the connection afer a second or two then redials. I have been all through checking network settings, modem settings, access numbers, etc. Also switched out the modem just in case, its a used machine and didn't know if the original modem was the problem.
Any ideas?

You might check their support site.

Used to use their free version (such as it was) and iirc, they would recommend uninstalling and then reinstalling (or upgrading) their software as a possible solution to correct connection problems.

Still - you may be right, could be the modem. Does it respond properly when you check 'control panel' 'modems' 'diagnostics'?

Uninstalling and reinstalling their software `is' a good thing to try.

Number that it is dialing properly once was free access is now a paid one. Will not let you on if your using netzero free access software to a paid access account. Had seem thing happen to me. Check netzero website to see access numbers for your area. Our area dropped all free access numbers and switch to paid ones.
