Guys,

Trying to use nero burning rom, but it is only writing at a speed of x16, i have a x48 speed cd writer and 48 speed discs, in the options menu it does not say i can select a faster speed, it only gives me a speed up to x16!!

Any ideas?

I have Nero, too, and the first, and so far only, CD I burned was on a 24X mini CD, but Nero burned it at 16X and didn't give me the option of a higher speed. So, there is definitely something fishy here. I plan to dig into the manual later, when things slow down a bit. Anyone have any ideas out there to help us out?

The Nero version might be pertinent. I suspect old versions may not be capable of the higher speeds. I suggest checking the Nero site FAQs and upgrades.

I believe Nero does a drive speed test and a data transfer rate test and uses it to set the maximum speed. I have never written to a CD-Drive at the rated write speed. Except for 1-2-4x drives. I usually write many small files, up to 30,000.

The speed depends on your cd! If you cd just support 12x and you choose 32x to burn your cd, it will not burn at 32s but 12x instead because that is the maximum speed allow by you cd!

True enough. But if the CD is rated at 24X and the burner is rated at, say, 52X why does Nero burn it at 16X? That is the question here.
